Counting Animation

There are different kinds of numbers. For example the background graphic on this page represents “Ordinal” numbers, that is they represent order. Numbers which represent quantities are called “Cardinal” numbers. The counting animation is about cardinal numbers and how they are represented. Understanding how cardinal numbers are represented in “place value” is a prerequisite to doing arithmetic, while understanding what you are doing. The counting animation is an attempt to illustrate the place value method of representing cardinal numbers. If you are not sure about the importance of "place value", try doing some arithmetic in Roman numerals!

This is just the begining of a part-time project to animate the basic arithmetic processes.
